About the role:

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with autism? We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a non-verbal child with Autism Spectrum Disorder at a vibrant and inclusive primary school in Brent, London. This is a rewarding long-term role where you will play a key part in helping a child thrive in their learning environment.

Application Requirements:

• Previous experience working with children with autism, especially non-verbal.

• Knowledge of alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton) is highly desirable.

• Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

• Strong teamwork and communication skills to work effectively with the wider school community.

• A proactive, problem-solving approach to learning barriers and individual challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 support for a non-verbal child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

• Use alternative communication methods such as PECS or Makaton to aid the child’s understanding and expression.

• Create a calm and structured learning environment to foster development in both academic and social skills.

• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to adapt lesson materials and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

• Support the child in developing independence, communication, and interaction with peers.
