About the Role
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will become a key part of a child's educational journey, supporting them throughout the school day and helping them access learning opportunities in a positive and meaningful way.
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school team, you'll help create a nurturing environment where the child feels safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.
This full-time role is to cover maternity leave and is expected to run from September 2026 until July 2027, with the possibility of extension depending on school requirements.
Key Responsibilities
✅ Provide tailored 1:1 support for a child with autism within a KS1 classroom.
✅ Help the child access learning activities and participate fully in school life.
✅ Work alongside the class teacher and SENCO to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
✅ Use effective strategies to support communication, emotional regulation, engagement, and social interaction.
✅ Support daily routines, classroom transitions, and structured activities.
✅ Encourage confidence, independence, and positive relationships with peers.
✅ Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, and school staff.
✅ Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and support planning.
✅ Promote an inclusive, supportive, and positive learning environment.
About You
We're looking for someone who:
Has experience supporting children with autism and/or other Special Educational Needs.
Ideally has experience working within a primary school environment.
Demonstrates patience, empathy, resilience, and a nurturing attitude.
Holds a relevant qualification such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Works effectively as part of a collaborative school team.
Is committed to safeguarding, inclusion, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.
