The Role
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting a child with autism throughout the school day, helping them access learning, develop social skills, and engage positively with their peers and teachers.
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team, you'll help create a safe, structured, and encouraging environment where the child can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.
This full-time position is to cover maternity leave and is expected to run from September 2026 until July 2027, with the potential for extension depending on the school's requirements.
Key Responsibilities
✅ Deliver personalised 1:1 support tailored to the child's individual needs.
✅ Support learning activities and encourage participation across the curriculum.
✅ Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
✅ Use effective strategies to support communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, and engagement.
✅ Assist with routines, transitions, and structured activities throughout the school day.
✅ Foster a positive, trusting relationship with the child and their family.
✅ Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff and SEN professionals.
✅ Promote inclusion and help create a positive learning environment where every child can succeed.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
Has previous experience supporting children with autism and/or other Special Educational Needs.
Ideally has experience working within a primary school setting.
Demonstrates patience, empathy, resilience, and a calm approach to supporting individual needs.
Holds a relevant qualification such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
Is a strong communicator who can work effectively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
Is passionate about inclusion and committed to helping every child reach their full potential.
Understands the importance of safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.
