TeacherActive is seeking an enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with autism in Key Stage 1 at a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Selly Oak. The Role

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a child with autism, providing tailored support to help them access learning, engage with their peers, and flourish both academically and socially.

Working alongside the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school team, you will help create a nurturing and structured environment where the child can feel safe, supported, and successful.

Key Responsibilities

✅ Provide personalised 1:1 support for a child in KS1 with autism.

✅ Support access to the curriculum and encourage active participation in classroom activities.

✅ Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and targeted support strategies.

✅ Use effective approaches to support communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, and engagement.

✅ Help manage daily routines, transitions, and structured learning activities.

✅ Build a positive, trusting relationship with the child, their family, and school staff.

✅ Monitor progress and provide feedback to the class teacher, SENCO, and relevant professionals.

✅ Contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment where every child can succeed.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Has experience supporting children with autism and/or other Special Educational Needs, ideally within a primary school setting.

Demonstrates patience, empathy, resilience, and a genuinely nurturing approach.

Holds a relevant qualification such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).

Is confident working collaboratively with teachers, SEN professionals, and parents.

Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Is committed to safeguarding, inclusion, and promoting the wellbeing of all children.
