Responsibilities:

Supervise and manage the sanitation of all equipment, surfaces, utensils, and the entire plant environment, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards.

Plan, organize, and coordinate sanitation activities in conjunction with quality assurance, food safety, health, operations, and maintenance teams to minimize production downtime and ensure seamless transitions between shifts.

Monitor and analyze sanitation performance metrics, conduct root cause analyses, lead cross-functional weekly meetings, and implement corrective actions to drive continuous improvement in hygiene and sanitation practices.

Develop, update, and enforce sanitation standard operating procedures (SOPs) and sanitation schedules, ensuring adherence to regulatory and internal audit requirements, including FDA and USDA inspections.

Manage personnel decisions, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management of the sanitation team, ensuring all staff are trained in food safety protocols, chemical handling, and sanitation best practices; participate in hands-on sanitation tasks as necessary.

Collaborate with the maintenance and production departments to optimize sanitary design of equipment, reducing contamination risks and improving overall plant hygiene.

Qualifications:

Minimum of one year of supervisory experience in a food manufacturing or processing environment, with a focus on sanitation and hygiene management.

At least one year of experience in sanitation within a food manufacturing, processing, or packaging facility, with a solid understanding of food safety regulations (HACCP, GMP, FSMA).

Proficiency in using digital tools, including email, spreadsheets, word processing software, and sanitation management systems to track cleanliness and regulatory compliance.

Strong knowledge of sanitation processes, including cleaning chemistry, chemical handling protocols, allergen control, and sanitary design principles of food manufacturing equipment.

Familiarity with food industry quality systems, regulatory inspections (FDA, USDA), pest control programs, and safety standards related to sanitation.

Ability to manage sanitation staff in a fast-paced food production environment, ensuring adherence to industry-specific hygiene standards and company policies.

Work Conditions:

Regular onsite presence at the food manufacturing facility, working in a production environment that may involve exposure to chemicals, high-pressure cleaning equipment, and varying temperatures (cold storage, hot water cleaning, etc.).

Up to 5% travel within the U.S. for site visits, compliance audits, or specialized training programs related to sanitation and food safety practices.

Flexible work hours to align with the plants sanitation schedules, including sanitation activities, pre-operative inspections, and various production shifts, including nights, weekends, or holidays as required.

High degree of autonomy and leadership, responsible for managing sanitation processes and ensuring regulatory compliance with minimal direct supervision, while maintaining food safety and hygiene at the highest standard.
