GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work 1:1 with Non-Verbal pupils at a special educational needs (SEN) school in Colchester. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone patient, empathetic and committed to helping students overcome barriers to communication and learning.

Working closely with teachers and other support staff, your contribution will be vital in creating a positive and inclusive learning experience. Responsibilities of the Learning Support Assistant:

Provide 1:1 support to non-verbal students, using alternative communication methods to facilitate learning.
Assist in managing and reducing challenging behaviours with patience and effective strategies.
Collaborate with teachers to implement tailored learning plans based on individual student needs.
Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe and supported.
Support students with personal care and life skills development as needed.
Maintain strong communication with staff, parents, and external professionals.
Requirements of the Learning Support Assistant:

Previous experience working with non-verbal students or in a special educational needs (SEN) setting.
Knowledge of sign language is preferred to facilitate communication with non-verbal students.
A calm, patient, and adaptable approach to managing challenging behaviour.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, to engage with students and staff.
A genuine commitment to supporting the educational and emotional needs of students with special educational needs (SEN).
Have an updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
