Job Summary:

An experienced nurse leader working with the employees and patients of Cherokee Health Services in the areas of infection control, employee health, immunizations and vaccine management program, quality improvement and assurance activities, coordination of committee meetings, participation on advisory boards and being part of the overall Quality Improvement Program functions. The Quality Management Nurse will demonstrate a commitment of quality care and service to our patients and their families, the community and our staff.

Job Duties:

Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the Self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.  Works with the Quality Improvement program staff in developing and maintaining essential programs for: Employee Health, Infection Control, Vaccine Management and Immunizations.  Reviews and assists in development of policies and procedures.  Facilitates education to employees of new and/or updated policies and procedures.  Participates and facilitates in the accreditation process within Cherokee Nation Health Services.  Enforces accreditation and compliance standards/guidelines within Cherokee Nation Health Services.  Initiates and participates in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement Projects.  Attends and participates in assigned meetings/committees.  Works closely with leadership and provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skills. Completes statistical data and reports the results with follow up on trends.  Understands healthcare standards of care and best practices; directs initiative implementation of same with key leaders.  Reviews processes.  Initiates, facilitates, and participates in Root Cause Analysis systemwide.  Reviews performance standards for medical staff, assesses existing systemwide policies and procedures, and collaborates with leadership to establish provider objectives, and improve effectiveness of the Cherokee Nation healthcare services.  Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve Cherokee Nation goals.  Maintains a professional, organized, and clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and acceptable safety standards.  Performs all duties in accordance with the Cherokee Nation Mission, Vision and Declaration of Designed Purpose. Other duties may be assigned. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Has completed the basic professional curricula of a school of nursing approved by a state board of nursing, and holds or is entitled to hold a diploma or degree therefrom; and passed a written examination in such subjects as the Oklahoma Nursing Board may determine. To qualify in the state of Oklahoma as an approved program for registered nurses, the program must be conducted in the State of Oklahoma in an accredited college or university leading to an associate, baccalaureate, or higher degree in nursing.  Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university in Infection Prevention and /or Epidemiology preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

Additional three (3) years of experience in a related field.

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Internet software, Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.  Possess and maintains an Oklahoma Board of Nursing Approved License: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have knowledge of management principles and practices, knowledge of quality improvement principles and practices, current clinical knowledge within the field of nursing, knowledge of and skills in accounting principles and the ability to operate computers and standard office equipment.

Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
