Job Summary:
The biorepository Technician will assist in the retrieval, preservation, monitoring, shipment, and receipt of biological samples as they arrive and/or are stored in the repository.
Job Duties:
Monitor freezers, refrigerators, and room temperatures as assigned by the Biobank Coordinator. Responds to freezer alarms following standard operating procedures. Unpack specimens (shipped and clinical) and record all pertinent information in biobanking software. Create folders to house all associated paperwork. Store specimens at the appropriate temperature(s) following guidelines set by procedures. Distribute emails of confirmation of sample receipt if required by the project. Receive new supplies and verify contents against the packing list. Notify other personnel of supplies received as needed and work with the Biobank Coordinator to build a list of supplies needed for current projects. Check the information on the sample vial against information provided by the study site of biobanking Software. Routinely scan samples and verify data stored meets project needs. Correct sample data where necessary and inform the Biobank Coordinator of any discrepancies by generating a monthly discrepancy report. Assist in the inventory of returned/destroyed specimens. Aliquot specimens according to project needs. Pull samples according to requisition, SOP, and instructions from inventory. Perform quality control verification of outgoing samples. Contact receiving labs before shipment to confirm shipping address and ensure contact will be available to receive specimens. Ship samples (dangerous and non-dangerous) by commercial or local courier. Complete all biobanking software forms, paperwork, and any other forms that may be necessary. Label vials and shipping boxes while also performing shipper quality control. Keep current on IATA shipping regulations and maintain certification/standards. Carry out other duties/projects as assigned.

No supervisory responsibility.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
One-year certificate from college or technical school; or 1-1/2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Field of study in biology, medicine, chemistry, life sciences, or other health-related discipline required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
No additional experience required.
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should know database software, inventory software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess at least one active Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) certification in Human Subject Research or obtain within one year of hire date.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE), or National Institution of Health (NIH), or Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP). Employee must have good attention to detail, excellent documentation skills, and must work well in a group environment. Employee must be willing to learn new software for the biobank. The employee must be a flexible agile team player who can change activities and directions quickly and respond to a variety of assignments with changing needs. Employee must have good communication skills.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to correct/adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and extreme cold (non-weather). The employee may occasionally be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
