Job Summary:
Collects laboratory specimens from patients; performs routine laboratory tests; and performs various clerical duties.
Job Duties:
Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Collects requested laboratory samples from patients. Performs routine laboratory testing on samples as directed. Assists in charting, filing, typing, and other routine clerical duties. Submits and receives specimens and reports to laboratories as needed. Cleans work area and maintains appearance of laboratory. Monitors stock and supplies and orders as needed. Maintains verifiable records at an institution or facility that has a published records retention policy that is equal to or exceeds the retention required by federal, tribal and/or state regulations. Maintains the confidentiality of any information received from any person or source about a client/patient, unless authorized in writing by the client/patient or required by law or court order. Complies with the applicable state and federal regulations in regard to the security, safety and confidentiality of any health services record created, maintained, transferred, or destroyed, whether the record is written, taped, computerized, or stored in any other medium. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities are required.
Qualifications:
PHLEBOTOMIST I
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
High school education; or general education degree (GED). Completion of a phlebotomy program from a technical school is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
None.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Prefer a Registered Phlebotomy Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
PHLEBOTOMIST II
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and less than one year of specialized training or education. Must have completed the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science approved phlebotomy program, or an acceptable formal structured phlebotomy program approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist as a prerequisite for phlebotomist technician, or have a minimum of one year full time experience as a Phlebotomist.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
An additional three (3) months of experience is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be a registered Phlebotomy Technician with American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) or equivalent or registry eligible and must obtain registry within six (6) months of hire and maintain throughout employment. Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
