Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Phlebotomy Technician I (PRN), also referred to as a Phlebotomy Tech at St Mary’s Medical Center a member of Prime Healthcare. The Phlebotomy Technician I will be responsible for drawing blood and handling specimens, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and transport to the lab. They also maintain equipment, adhere to quality and safety protocols, record patient data, and collaborate with other departments to ensure effective patient care. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PRN.

Shift’s Available:  Varied

Employment Type: Per Diem (PRN)

Shift Hours: Varied

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the process

responsible for correct blood collection, draw blood from patients using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other techniques; ensure proper identification and labeling of specimens

organize, handle, and transport specimens to the laboratory for testing, ensure all specimens are properly processed and stored

adhere to quality control and safety protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens and ensure accurate test results

maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensure everything is in working order and properly sanitized

perform more complex or specialized phlebotomy procedures as required, often with minimal supervision

Qualifications:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

high school diploma, or equivalent, required

BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current, required

minimum of two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience, preferred
