Overview:
Responsible for the tactical, day-to-day management of the human resources functions for the Akron, OH complex. Provides HR support, guidance and development opportunities while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or five plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in manufacturing is preferred
SHRM or HRCI Certification preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Compliance – Ability to audit and monitor quality of outputs; demonstrate delivery against specified policies/procedures ensuring the highest level of performance
Teamwork – Ability to build and develop relationships with internal employees, strategic partners, and other external parties; able to resolve conflict
Work style – Self-directed, attention to detail, collaborative, flexible, problem solver
Communication – Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
Organizational – Able to manage tasks and deadlines; and resolve conflicting priorities
Confidentiality – Must bring confidentiality to all aspects of work

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Typical office setting working inside a controlled temperature environment
• Regular walkthrough/time spent in a manufacturing setting
• Occasional work required outside
• May perform activities in an environment containing hazardous elements and requiring safety awareness and adherence to all safety policies and guidelines
• Work must be performed in a safe manner for personal protection and for the protection of other team members
• All safety procedures, procedures described in SOPs, JHAs, and support of the ISO standards in all functional areas must be followed, enforced, and strictly complied with
• Occasional travel required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Position requires the ability to sit for a minimum of 6 hours per day
• Will stand, walk, bend over, and reach above head less than an hour a day

Responsibilities:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruiting and Onboarding
Review hiring requests and ensure hiring authorizations are obtained before posting
Create job postings and advertising plan
Complete applications review
Lead the hiring team on interview/selection decisions
Create offer letters and obtain necessary approvals
Manage recruitment efforts for vacant positions including meeting with hiring managers to determine needs
Ensure legal compliance for required new hire federal and state forms (I-9, etc.)
Benefits/Policies/Payroll Administrative Management
Manage open enrollment process and complete audits as required
Partner with the Compensation & Benefits Manager to ensure accurate benefits administration
Act as the lead/primary contact for general benefits and policy questions from team members, escalate to the appropriate subject matter experts when necessary
Oversee STD/LTD/FMLA/Parental Leave/Vacation Pay/PTO and all other leaves in conjunction with Payroll and our 3rd party provider
Ensure adherence to all policies and procedures, provide communications or reminders of changes when necessary
Support policy review, suggestions, and interpretations to be sure all parties have a shared understanding
Communicate with Payroll Department regarding any payroll corrections or issues as they are discovered and follow-up through to resolution
Serve as the primary contact for the Payroll and HRIS functions regarding any team member related issues or questions
Serve as the point of contact with EHS for all related matters to include workers’ compensation
Employee and Labor Relations
Follow-up on employee complaints through to resolution
Document and file formal investigations
Recommend disciplinary actions according to the progressive discipline guidelines (escalate when necessary)
Conduct exit interviews
Maintain employee personnel, medical and I-9 files in accordance with federal, state, and local laws
Submit any suspensions or terminations to the Sr. HR Manager/Assoc. Dir., People Ops. for final review and approval
Receive and respond to unemployment claims and verifications of employment in a timely manner
Ensure notifications/postings are in compliance with federal, state and local laws
Annual Training, Learning & Development, and Performance Reviews
Update, review and lead all Ajinomoto required training sessions (topics – harassment, drug and alcohol recognition, trade secret protection, etc.)
Assist supervisors and managers with training needs for their skilled technical team members (non-exempt/non-professional roles)
Manage the quarterly review process, giving feedback and support when needed
Recommend and assist with performance improvement plans when necessary
Collaborate with Corporate Talent and Engagement Manager to build out L&D programs
Succession Planning

Employee Engagement & Wellness
Develop and maintain a schedule to frequently visit all areas to continually build rapport
Assist the HR/leadership team with the promotion of the employee engagement survey, planning, rollout, and completion each year
Collaborate with local HR team and Benefits Manager to create plans to fully utilize the wellness budget and benefits offerings/perks
Regularly review absenteeism and turnover KPIs, look for trends or common issues, work with management team on ideas for improvement
Salary Range:
$95k -$110k
