Architectural Technologist – Colchester – Multi-Disciplinary Consultancy
There's a difference between taking a job and building a career. This one's the second kind.
This well-established, multi-disciplinary property and construction consultancy has a genuine track record of developing people - not just talking about it. Join their Colchester team as an Architectural Technologist and you'll have a clear, structured pathway to progress, backed by in-house coaching and mentoring designed to get you there. They work across commercial, education, defence and residential projects, giving you the breadth of experience that actually builds a career, not just a CV.
Why You'll Want to Work Here
A real progression pathway – this firm has a real track record of staff progression
Investment in your development - in-house coaching and mentoring built into how they work
Flexibility that means something - remote and flexible working options
Proper time off - 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, long service recognition, and a festive shutdown
Fair pay, properly reviewed - regular salary benchmarking and they're an accredited Real Living Wage employer
Benefits that cover the important stuff - competitive pension, health cash plan, professional membership fees covered and family-friendly policies
A team that socialises - fully funded seasonal events and team days
Wellbeing and sustainability - Cycle to Work scheme, volunteering days and mental health support
The Role
As an Architectural Technologist, you'll lead the production and coordination of detailed technical design information using Revit, across a genuinely varied project portfolio. This is a technically-minded role for someone who takes pride in getting the detail right - turning concepts into accurate, coordinated, buildable construction information.
What You'll Be Doing
Working directly with clients to understand their needs and shape project briefs
Preparing feasibility reports with a clear eye on regulatory constraints
Managing building regulation, planning and Listed Building applications - liaising with clients, consultants and authorities along the way
Producing detailed design drawings for competitive tenders, including working drawings and pre-tender estimates
Leading tender analysis and making value engineering recommendations
Acting as Project Manager, attending site and project meetings to keep things moving
Taking real ownership of your projects, from technical delivery through to client satisfaction
Keeping projects on track and communicating clearly with the wider team
What You'll Bring
An Architectural Technology degree – or similar
Strong Revit skills - this is essential
Extensive experience producing and coordinating BIM models and technical drawing packages
Proficiency in AutoCAD
Demonstrable experience delivering detailed technical design information across all RIBA work stages.
Strong technical detailing ability with a sound understanding of UK Building Regulations, construction methods, and building technology
Experience producing construction packages, specifications, and coordinated working drawing information
Ability to identify and resolve technical design issues independently
MCIAT accreditation would be a strong advantage
Good to Know
This role will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), Counter Terrorist Check (CTC), Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.
The office sits close to Colchester town centre with easy access from the A12 — handy whether you're driving in or hopping off the train.
Progression That's Actually a Pathway
This isn't a role where you arrive and stay static. Prove yourself and there's a genuine, career progression on offer.
