We are working in partnership with a specialist school who are seeking a passionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a specialist school supporting pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). The school provides a modern, well-resourced environment designed to meet the needs of every learner, including sensory spaces, specialist classrooms, and outdoor learning areas.
This role will begin as a long term role on a full time basis with the view of becoming permanent if successful.
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom. You will work closely with teachers and other staff to help deliver a high-quality, inclusive learning experience tailored to individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils with additional needs, including SLD and communication difficulties
Work 1:1 and with small groups to support learning and development
Encourage communication using a range of strategies and approaches
Support positive behaviour, recognising that behaviour is a form of communication
Assist teachers with lesson delivery and classroom preparation
Help create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment
Build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families
Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times
Requirements
Experience working with children or young people (SEN experience desirable)
Understanding or willingness to learn that behaviour is communication
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A proactive, patient, and adaptable approach
Ability to use initiative and support pupils with a range of needs
Commitment to supporting pupil progress, engagement, and wellbeing
