Manufacturing Engineer – AIT

Stockport | £45,000–£55,000 | Permanent | Days

A specialist engineering manufacturer is looking to recruit a Manufacturing Engineer to support a large-scale vehicle assembly programme.

The role centres on developing and improving Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) processes, working closely with production and engineering teams to make sure builds are efficient, repeatable and genuinely fit for purpose. You'll be involved in shaping manufacturing processes from the early stages right through to full production, splitting your time between shop-floor support and process development.

The Role

• Developing Assembly, Integration and Test processes for vehicle build programmes

• Transferring knowledge from existing production lines into new manufacturing environments

• Acting as the shop-floor point of contact for process, tooling and build queries

• Leading root cause investigations and driving practical process improvements

• Supporting production ramp-up activities and resolving build issues as they arise

• Driving continuous improvement through lean methods, line balancing and waste reduction

• Providing Design for Manufacture input to support design teams

• Producing SOPs, work instructions and wider process documentation

• Supporting BOM structuring from drawing through to manufacture

• Working closely with production and project teams throughout build phases

• Ensuring compliance with health, safety and quality requirements

What We're Looking For

• HND, degree or apprenticeship in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering

• Background in a technical or industrial manufacturing environment

• Experience improving processes and supporting production activity

• Understanding of engineering change and manufacturing documentation

• Ability to work from drawings through to production build

• Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach

• Comfortable working across production, engineering and project teams

• Basic IT skills, with experience of MES or similar systems

Desirable

• Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems

• Exposure to vehicle assembly or similarly complex builds

What's on Offer

• £45,000–£55,000 salary

• Competitive pension scheme

• Half-day Fridays

• Life assurance and company sick pay, increasing with service

• Employee Assistance Programme

• Additional holidays and long-service rewards

• Cycle-to-work scheme

This is a permanent role within a well-established engineering business, offering genuine involvement in complex build activity and long-term development within manufacturing engineering.
