About the Role
A specialist SEN school in Aylesbury is seeking a dedicated and resilient KS2 SEN Teacher to join their primary team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with pupils in Key Stage 2 who have Autism (ASC) and complex communication needs within a highly structured and supportive environment.
The pupils are predominantly non-verbal and present with a high degree of challenging behaviour, requiring a calm, consistent, and proactive approach. The school places a strong emphasis on communication, emotional regulation, functional learning, and developing independence through personalised learning programmes and positive behaviour support strategies.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with Autism and complex needs
* Create a structured, predictable, and nurturing classroom environment
* Support pupils' communication, emotional regulation, and social development
* Adapt teaching approaches to meet EHCP outcomes and individual learning targets
* Use visual supports, sensory strategies, and communication systems to maximise engagement
* Implement positive behaviour support plans and de-escalation strategies
* Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and wider SEN professionals
* Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress
* Contribute to annual reviews, EHCP meetings, and multidisciplinary planning
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Experience teaching children within a primary or SEN setting
* Strong behaviour management skills and confidence supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
* Ability to adapt learning to meet complex communication and learning needs
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* Patient, resilient, and consistent approach
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable:
* Experience working with Autism (ASC) and non-verbal pupils
* Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, TEACCH, or sensory-based learning approaches
* Experience implementing positive behaviour support strategies
* Experience within a specialist Autism or SEN school setting
