Job Description: Complex Carer (Newark)

### Location
Newark (Nottinghamshire)

### Role Summary
Complex Carers provide specialist, person-centred support to individuals with high dependency needs. The role involves delivering safe care in line with care plans and clinical protocols, supporting daily living, and responding promptly to complex health needs, including neurological and respiratory conditions.

### Key Responsibilities

Provide tailored personal care for individuals with complex needs, including:
- Spinal injury, including Autonomic dysreflexia
- Brain injury
Support respiratory care, including:
- Tracheostomy care
- Ventilation support
- Oxygen therapy
- Suctioning (airway management)
- Cough assist
Manage enteral feeding safely:
- PEG feeding
- NG tube support
Support elimination and bowel health:
- Bowel management in line with protocols
Support urinary care:
- Catheter care and monitoring (including responses to changes in condition)
Monitor and respond to medical episodes:
- Seizures recognition and escalation according to care plans
- Responding to symptoms of Autonomic dysreflexia promptly and appropriately
Follow medication, fluids, and care documentation requirements accurately.
Maintain infection prevention and control standards.
Work closely with families and the wider care team to ensure consistent, safe support.
Report concerns promptly using agreed safeguarding and clinical escalation routes.
### Skills, Experience & Requirements

Experience in complex care or comparable clinical/support settings (preferred).
Knowledge and competence in supporting individuals with:
- Tracheostomy, ventilation, oxygen therapy, and suctioning
- PEG feeding and/or NG tube feeding support
- Bowel management
- Catheter support
- Spinal injury needs, including awareness of Autonomic dysreflexia
- Seizure awareness and response
Ability to follow care plans, risk assessments, and named protocols accurately.
Calm under pressure with strong observational skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with the individual, family, and multidisciplinary teams.
Respect, dignity, and person-centred values at all times.
Full right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo required training and checks.
### Training & Development

Induction and competency-based training relevant to:
- Tracheostomy
- Ventilation/Oxygen therapy
- Suctioning
- Cough assist
- PEG/NG tube feeding
- Catheter care
- Bowel management
- Autonomic dysreflexia recognition and action
- Seizure response
### Working Hours

Flexible shift patterns available (to be discussed at interview), including weekends and evenings as required.
