Stores Supervisor - Engineering

Overview

An established engineering and manufacturing organisation is seeking an organised, proactive, and experienced Stores Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operation of its stores function.

This is a key position responsible for ensuring the efficient receipt, storage, control, and distribution of materials, components, consumables, and tooling required to support manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining stock accuracy, material traceability, inventory control, and material availability across the business while working closely with Production, Purchasing, Planning, and Quality teams.

Key Responsibilities

Stores Management & Inventory Control

* Oversee the receipt, storage, issue, and movement of materials, components, consumables, and tooling.

* Maintain accurate stock records and traceability using stock control and ERP/MRP systems.

* Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment requirements.

* Carry out regular stock checks and cycle counts.

* Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies.

* Ensure materials are correctly identified, stored, and protected.

Goods Inwards & Despatch

* Manage incoming deliveries and verify goods against purchase orders and delivery documentation.

* Liaise with suppliers and internal departments regarding shortages, damaged goods, or non-conforming materials.

* Process delivery documentation accurately.

* Coordinate packing and despatch activities to ensure on-time deliveries.

* Arrange courier and transport collections as required.

Production Support

* Ensure production materials and job kits are prepared and issued in line with manufacturing schedules.

* Work closely with production teams to support operational requirements and minimise downtime.

* Communicate material availability and priorities effectively across departments.

Team Leadership

* Provide day-to-day supervision and support to stores personnel.

* Allocate workload and priorities to ensure efficient operations.

* Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation, and safety.

* Support employee training and development initiatives.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance

* Identify and implement improvements to material flow, stock control processes, and storage methods.

* Support continuous improvement activities throughout the business.

* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental procedures.

* Maintain material handling equipment and ensure it remains fit for purpose.

Essential

Previous experience within a Stores, Warehouse, Logistics, or Inventory Control environment.

Strong organisational and administrative skills.

Good understanding of stock control procedures and material traceability.

Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

Strong numerical and literacy skills.

Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

Previous supervisory or team leader experience.

Experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.

Forklift Truck Licence (or willingness to undertake training).

Experience using ERP/MRP systems.

Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.

Hours of Work

39 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Early finish on Fridays.

Overtime available and paid at enhanced rates
