Job Overview
We are recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist independent school in Haslingden, supporting pupils aged 7-16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school provides a nurturing, structured, and inclusive environment where pupils are supported to overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential. Staff work collaboratively to deliver personalised support, promote positive outcomes, and create a safe and engaging learning experience for every student.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism and SEMH needs
Support learning activities through tailored and differentiated approaches
Implement sensory and communication strategies to meet individual pupil needs
Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and positive behaviour
Support pupils in achieving their EHCP targets
Work closely with teachers, therapists, and the wider support team
Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and engagement
Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
Support personal care and behavioural needs where required
Requirements
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly autism and/or SEMH (essential)
Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (desirable)
Willingness to support personal care needs where required
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
