Overview:

Serves as a resource person to staff, both clinically and administratively.  Serves as the off shift representative of management: that represents and supports management. Supervises staff and makes administrative decisions which may involve patients and their families and UnityPoint Des Moines staff.  Maintains a global perspective as a basis for decision making.  Coordinates utilization of resources including staff and equipment. Seeks to enhance quality of care by acting as consultant and mentor.  Provides feedback to appropriate management regarding staff and clinical situations as necessary. Contributes to an environment that promotes staff empowerment. Coordinates patient placement in collaboration with Patient Access, Transfer Center, Clinical Staffing, and nursing departments.

Responsibilities:

Provides leadership to staff when making administrative decisions  

Serves as a resource person to staff clinically and administratively 

Provides leadership by coordinating patient placement  

Assists in managing resources via efficient patient placement in order to meet quality and financial goals  

Provides recommendations regarding staffing decisions in collaboration with nursing departments and Staffing Office 

Functions as part of the Unity Point Des Moines Hospital Emergency Incident Command System during emergency situations 

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements 

Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position. 

Preferred or Specialized 

Not required to perform the essential functions of the position. 

Education: 

Graduate of accredited nursing program 

BSN 

Experience: 

Two years of experience as a registered nurse in acute care setting 

License(s)/Certification(s): 



Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in [type in State]. 

Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire. 

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 



Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. 

Multicultural sensitivity. 

Microsoft Office – basic computer skills. 

Customer/patient focused.  

Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.  

Other: 



Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
