Position: Tool & Die Maker

General Job Description:

Constructs and repairs shop tools, gages, jigs, fixtures or dies used in the production and acceptance or inspection of parts from sheet metal.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent

Five or more years experience as a tool and die maker for the sheet metal industry

Knowledge of characteristics of various metals needed to achieve final product.

Must be able to read and understand blueprints

Must supply own tools

Specific Duties:

Makes tools and dies for forging, punching, milling, drilling, and other metal forming, die casting and metal cutting work.

Layout and plan work from mechanical drawings, models, rough sketches or other oral and written specifications.

Work with engineering and production to build Fixtures and Gages to ensure quality of parts

Occasionally assist with making prototype and short run parts.

Maintenance and maintain customer dies and tooling.

Use a variety of tool and die maker’s hand tools and measuring instruments

Understand the working properties of common metals and alloys.

Set up and operate a wide variety of machine tools and related equipment.

Has knowledge of shrinkage and draft and heat-treating of metal parts during fabrication as well as of finished tools and dies to achieve required results.

Works to close tolerances on tools of intricate design.
