Overview:
ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Traffic Operations team is looking for a versatile Transportation Engineer to join our growing Transportation practice.
The ideal candidate can work in a hybrid setup from VHB's RI, CT, or Worcester, MA offices. This arrangement involves working in the office three days a week.
Responsibilities
Work within a team of professionals to develop traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of transportation projects
Prepare written planning documents including traffic-safety studies, road safety assessments, transportation planning and scoping documents.
Conduct field observations. Tabulate and analyze traffic and safety data.
Develop preliminary and final design plans and cost estimates.
Develop safety solutions which consider all users, including motorists, bicyclists, public transit users and pedestrians of all ages and abilities.
Assess countermeasure recommendations using traffic engineering and operational analysis tools.
Document and communicate findings from field observations and data collection with clients and public stakeholders.
Skills and Attributes
Working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in civil engineering looking to apply these skills to identify innovative solutions.
Knowledge of local and state regulations governing site design.
Skilled in industry-standard engineering design and analysis systems (e.g., CAD, GIS, traffic simulation).
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.
Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3-5 years of engineering experience
5-8 years of engineering experience preferred
BS in Civil Engineering
Engineer in Training certification or ability to obtain within 6 months, preferred
Professional Engineer or ability to obtain within 1 year is a plus
Experience with traffic capacity analysis software (Synchro, HCS) preferred
Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation required and GIS experience a plus
