Overview:
Department 427 Virginia Class Propulsion Plant Electrical Lead Design Yard (LDY) requires an engineering supervisor to lead a group of engineers to support the design and integration of power conversion equipment for the VIRGINIA Class submarine. This supervisor will be responsible for the daily interface with the customer (NAVSEA, NNL, BPMI) for items tracked by the Power Conversion Module (PCM) Integrated Product Team (IPT). Other responsibilities include assignment of work within the group, technical development of the engineering staff, monitoring cost, schedule and performance metrics, and developing and maintaining good internal and external customer relations.
Specific responsibilities for the group will include, but are not limited to:
Maintain a collaborative, inclusive and rewarding work environment and foster the growth of assigned employees
Supervise a group of engineers supporting the design, development, and analysis of power conversion equipment
Lead the PCM IPT as the Electric Plant LDY
Development equipment functional requirement specifications for PCMs
Support integration of PCM design changes into the Virginia electric plant
Develop compatibility test plans, test procedures, test reports, and support compatibility testing at the Bettis CTF
Provide vendor oversight of design modifications to legacy/new PCMs to ensure design changes are technically correct and provided to EB in a timely manner to support issuance of design disclosures
Develop new and/or revisions to existing component technical manuals, system manuals, and new construction test forms
Ensure the technical accuracy, quality, cost and schedule performance of products
Support design reviews and S9G I&C Program Reviews
Project Management including a working knowledge of MS Project, tracking of commitments, EVMS and Artemis
Qualifications:
REQUIRED
• A Bachelor of Science degree in electrical or nuclear engineering (or equivalent)
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in electrical engineering or equivalent experience pertaining to job description
• Ability to obtain and hold a DOD Secret security clearance
PREFERRED
• Knowledge of submarine propulsion plant design and analysis
• Experience with system integration of power equipment (inverters/converters)
• Experience planning and executing complex projects or component design changes that involve multiple departments and customers
• Working with specialty departments (EMI, Shock and Vibration, Special Emphasis)
• Experience working with advance, detail, and production planning
• Experience working with equipment vendors supporting design, manufacture, and qualification of electrical components
Skills:
Applicants should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be capable of establishing strong relationships with the Electric Boat shipyard organizations, Virginia Program Office, SUPSHIP, NAVSEA 08K, PMS450, NNL, and BPMI.
