Responsibilities:
Caring Shuttle Driver to transport our frail senior patients
InnovAge Lead Driver provides transportation for our frail and elderly participants from their home to our Day Centers and appointments during the day and for field trips as part of the activities program. They deliver in-home meals and provide delivery and pick-up of supplies and medications for participants in addition to performing pre/post trip inspections. 90% of InnovAge's participants/passengers are COVID vaccinated. Additionally, they are responsible for the monitoring of vehicles, participant safety and supplies. Working in collaboration with the Manager of Transportation and the Scheduler, the Lead Driver communicates issues in writing and assists in driver education in addition to performing other driving tasks as needed.
Physical attendance at an InnovAge facility and/or an InnovAge participant home is essential to performing the job duties. There are no evening shifts, weekends or vacation work required. There is a shared rotational schedule for Saturday coverage, which requires Saturday coverage once every 4 to 8 weeks.
Drives InnovAge vehicles in a safe and responsible manner which includes; utilizing defensive driving skills, following InnovAge policies, procedures and assigned routes.
Loads and unloads participants in and out of InnovAge vehicles and assists participants into and out of their homes in adherence with InnovAge policies and procedures.
Transports participants to all appointments that have been pre-arranged by the dispatcher.
Delivers in-home meals, supplies and medications to participants, ensuring that the correct participants receive the correct parcels.
Assists participants into their homes and helps with simple tasks when necessary and appropriate, such as; helping participants with outerwear and moving of items that are obstructing walking paths.
Keeps Dispatch updated on all events of their assigned routes.
Maintains safety and cleanliness of assigned vehicle and coordinates scheduling of van maintenance with the Manager of Transportation.
Assists other Drivers with the loading and unloading of participants arriving and exiting the center.
Participates within the interdisciplinary team in the formulation of Plans of Care for InnovAge PACE program participants, as well as in other interdisciplinary team settings that plan, coordinate and monitor the care of InnovAge PACE program participants.
Lead Functions - 20%
Receives and signs for medications from the clinic on a timely basis
Assigns medications to the route and driver and ensures that all medications are signed for and delivered
Ensures that medications are placed in safe keeping when not assigned to a driver, in order to prevent mishandling
Collects all delivery receipts and ensures the completion of all deliveries, returns all receipts to the delivering department (Clinic/Day Center) in a timely manner
Labels and distributes personal supplies and meals to the driver’s boxes for delivery.
Ensures that all participants are out of the center at the end of the day.
Monitors vehicles to ensure that there is an adequate number of supplies and that the vehicles are clean and presentable. Monitors the pre-trip inspections of other drivers, in addition to own vehicle.
Assists in the training of drivers and perform ride-along’s with current and new drivers to ensure comprehension of routes.
Performs many last-minute driving requests for other absent drivers or plans that change without notice.
Covers a modified driving route each day and a full route when needed.
Acts as a liaison between the drivers and Transportation Manager regarding various transportation issues, both verbally and in writing to both the Transportation Manager and dispatch personnel
REQUIRED
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and have six months prior experience with the organization in the position of Driver.
Requires excellent driving record with no more than two points off state motor vehicle record in addition to being *collision and incident free for the previous six (6) months. * “Collision and incident free” implies that the individual was not found culpable if involved in either a collision or incident
Previous DOT and Defensive Driving experience
Must have six months experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs.
One year of experience working with the frail or elderly
High school diploma or GED or previous experience of one year or more within the realm of the position’s duties and responsibilities may be substituted in the absence of a high school diploma.
Licensure Requirements By State
Valid state issued Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger endorsement (will accept Class A)
6 months experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs.
PREFERRED
Knowledge of how to use and maintain positions equipment.
Experience transporting the elderly.
Six months experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs.
