Overview:

Department 435 – VIRGINIA Class Main Machinery - Responsible for the design, manufacture, test, and delivery of Main Machinery for the state-of-the-VIRGINIA Class submarine, including turbine generator sets, magnetic bearings, control systems, propulsion turbines, reduction gears, couplings, bearing systems, main thrust bearing and shafting systems. A challenging opportunity exists within the engineered components group for the following responsibilities:

Basic requirements include, but not limited to:

Work utilizing controls engineering and circuit feedback evaluation

Review detail designs for ongoing and newly designs controls system architecture and components

Review of Supplier technical submittals

Provide oversight of testing at vendor facilities  and shipyard integration testing programs

Participate in technical discussions with vendor(s), Prime contractor and nuclear NAVY customers

Review internal documentation to assure that requirements have been met

Preparation of technical correspondence to nuclear NAVY customers

Ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills to allow close communication of technical issues with nuclear NAVY customers and Electric Boat management. Frequent travel may be required to participate in the supplier’s factory acceptance and shipyard testing programs.

The individual must have a strong proficiency in all facets of engineering principles associated with rotating machinery and controls.

The individual should have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and procedures as well as have good technical writing and communication skills.



Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical, Electrical and Controls, or Mechanical Engineering

0-4 years experience

Preferred:

Masters degree

Electrical and Controls Engineering

Control Systems working knowledge

Skills:

Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with the nuclear NAVY customer, in an engineering environment

Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are a must
