Overview:
If you are seeking a challenge that will allow you to make strategic contributions to strengthen Electric Boat’s ability to procure quality material and engineered hardware in support of ship construction as a member of a multidisciplinary engineering team, this may be the job opportunity for you.
The Waterfront Procurement Support group is engineering team embedded within the materials management organization. The group is responsible for expediting technical resolutions of supplier related problems, developing design and procurement information tailored to the modular construction and procurement selection build strategy, and developing and driving implementation of procedural improvements that align with Electric Boat’s strategic material availability goals.
Engineers in the group interface with all facets of Electric Boat including Design, Program Office, Planning, Purchasing, Materials Services, Shipyard Test, Shipyard Trades, other Engineering departments and organizations, as well as outside material suppliers and outside engineering vendors.
The successful candidate will be tasked with the following responsibilities:
Problem resolution and technical evaluation of nonconforming conditions, with demonstrated expertise in how material requirements integrate with end use across multiple applications – Structural, Mechanical, Module/Assembly, Piping – to support ship construction and certification
Development of design information and technical instructions for suppliers
Design/ordering requirement error correction
Strategic improvement initiatives targeting the overall quality and consistency of material procurement data, including the elimination of waste
The successful candidate must be willing to travel occasionally to support material delivery schedules.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in a civil, mechanical or similar engineering field
1+ year(s) of engineering experience
Preferred:
A Masters degree in an engineering related field
Previous experience in Naval shipbuilding or manufacturing
Experience with drawing development, engineering design, or material procurement
Military/Navy experience
Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
Self-motivated
Well organized
Ability to identify risks and opportunities
Ability to manage concurrent tasks
