DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Supervised patient care to ensure quality nursing care is given throughout the facility. Supervises all personnel who deliver direct patient services. Coordinates all patient services. Supports the hospital and program philosophy of care; to ensure the safety and well-being of each patient.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision of patient care services: Oversees all nursing units to ensure all patient needs are met. Responsible for maintaining a safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for all patients.

Supervises and coordinates work of licensed and unlicensed nursing personnel in all units. Assists with orientation, training and development, performance management, and employee relation issues.

Receives report from off-going supervisor and gives report to oncoming supervisor.

Serves as administrative authority for the smooth function of the facility on assigned shift. Notifies CEO, CNO, or ADON of urgent concerns during the shift. When concern is non-urgent, notifies CNO or ADON by email or phone message.

Reviews and approves patient admissions from the Intake Department. Reviews patient orders and authorizations for medications with attending physicians.

Works with the CNO to determine the optimal allocation of staff, per shift on each unit. Assures that staffing is in place and reassigns staff according to unit needs.

Monitors all staffing, records absenteeism, replaces staff for absences and vacancies for upcoming shift(s), monitors meal and break times, works on the units when needed.

Responsible for communication with physicians, family members, or other outside entities.

Assists RNs in assessing patients who are experiencing acute changes. Provides clinical expertise in the management of medical and psychiatric emergencies.

Continuously rounds to monitor the units and patient care.

Responds to all codes and assist as needed. Replenishes crash cart immediately after use.

Audits charts routinely. Provides clinical expertise in documentation.

Works with CNO and ADON to complete evaluations for employees. Presents evaluations. Counsels personnel as needed and completes appropriate documentation.

Maintains proficiency with computer employee scheduling and patient census systems.

Restocks supplies if needed.

Directs staff during emergency codes. Participates in fire drills. Directs staff on their duties during emergency drills.

Upholds the Organization’s ethics and customer service standards.

Requirements

Education/Licensure:

Current Nevada State RN License required

ADN / BSN or equivalent preferred

Current CPR certification

CPI obtained within 60 days of hire

Knowledge and Experience:

Demonstrates sound leadership skills

Supervisory experience in a team role.

Ability to organize activities and schedules for medical and/or non-medical tasks for patients.

Ability to stabilize acute psychotic and non-violent crises by using accepted intervention techniques.

Basic knowledge of abnormal psychology as typically found in the adult/adolescent psychiatric population helpful.

Skills and Abilities:

Maintains confidentiality at all times.

Sensitivity and willingness to interact with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.

Working knowledge with software and/or equipment (Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately.

Strong clinical and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work with people with a variety of background and educational levels.

Ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.

Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively as well as possessing the skills to lead, influence, train and motivate others.

Facilitation of education oriented and didactic groups.

Good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, expanding organization.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:

Stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand for sustained period of time.

Walk, push, pull, lift, carry objects from a lower to higher position or horizontally from position to position or otherwise move objects.

Feel sizes, shapes, temperatures, and textures by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips.

Express or exchange ideas orally and potentially loudly, accurately, or quickly.

Hearing within normal hearing ranges.

Lift up to 50 pounds, exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently.

Minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction.

While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside.
