What does a Teaching Assistant do?

* Provide support in and out of lessons for pupils with SEND

* Assisting pupils with class work and utilising strategies to engage them in their learning

* Assisting pupils in developing their holistic wellbeing, by facilitating social interactions, supporting group activities and building effective communication skills

* Communicating effectively with class teachers and other support staff to provide bespoke support to each pupil

* Building a strong rapport with young people to foster effective working relationships to facilitate academic and social development

What does a Teaching Assistant need?

* A background in working with young people, either in mainstream, a special school setting, or in residential/care settings

* Experience of supporting pupils with SEND

* The ability to build a strong rapport quickly with young people and maintain productive relationships with pupils

* A pro-active attitude and the ability to judge situations effectively, responding appropriately to different needs

* A strong personality to help engage young people in their learning
