Position Summary:
The Behavioral Specialist position works within the child welfare arena to provide appropriate treatment planning for children with additional behavioral and mental health needs or concerns. Works with children, caregivers, community mental health, school systems and other service providers to create and implement a treatment plan focused on the behavioral and mental health needs of the child.
Annual Salary Range: $46,000.00 - $52,900.00

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides treatment plans and leadership for the treatment team
Provides assessment, treatment, case management, and case reviews to children and caregivers
Provides training to Caregiver’s and Staff specific to child’s behavioral and mental health needs
Completes and submits required reports and /documents as required by contract
Refers appropriate behavioral health and mental health services to children and families
Maintains regular contact with children, caregivers, therapists, school personnel and other service providers related to the implementation of the service plan
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to utilize the Department of Health and Human Services computer systems and any other computer systems required by contract
Ability to utilize a computer to create work documents and to perform email functions
Ability for strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to with Michigan courts or possess the ability to successfully interact with court personnel and appointed attorneys
Ability to work with difficult individual and have strong conflict management skills
Ability to cope and engage with patience in difficult situations
Ability to work with children and families who have been traumatized
Recommended Employment Qualifications:
Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or a Human Service-related field is required.
A Master's Degree in social work, sociology, psychology or a human service related area as specified by state regulations is preferred.
Experience:
At least two (2) years experience working in Child Welfare, Family systems or in an Education Interventionalist role; along with experience in assessment and treatment planning is required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Professional State of Michigan License preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
