Summary:

Under the direction of the Behavioral Analyst, the Behavioral Technician implements behavior support plans.  Interventions are individualized to meet the needs of each child and are used to decrease problem and aggressive behavior, as well promote skill acquisition.  This position works in a fast-paced, dynamic and sometimes intense environment to provide behavioral interventions to children who have language, communication, behavioral and developmental delays.

Responsibilities:

(40%)*  Provide structured one-on-one instruction with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) primarily at the clinic but occasionally in children's' homes, schools and/or community settings.

(30%)*  Provide instruction on social skills (i.e. social interactions, play behavior, and conversational skills).

(10%)*  Collect clinical data and track progress using an iPad and electronic data collection software.

(10%)*  Complete daily paperwork and data collection notes in a detailed, accurate, consistent and timely manner. 

(10%)*  Promote the development of functional communication skills (i.e. speaking and using assistive communication devices).

Certifications and Licensures:

TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt

Within 6 months of hire or transfer (Employees who are in this position on or before 12/31/2023 will have 24 months to complete this certification)

Required Education:

High school diploma is required 

Associates degree or higher preferred

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create a fun and supportive learning environment for children with special needs.

Become fluent in the understanding of the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VP-MAPP).

Support independence with adaptive living skills (daily routines). 

Participate in team meetings with a BCBA, parents and other team members.

Respond when teammates need help with challenging behavior in the moment. This can be in any area of the building, on a bus or in the community.

Attend team meetings to discuss a child's progress, changes to specific programs and/or changes and additions to behavior treatment plans.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

Strong desire to work with children with special needs, particularly autism.

Technology proficient in Apple and/or Android devices.

Must be flexible and willing to work with children with different skills levels.

Must be able to accept constructive performance feedback.

Ability to assess one's own strengths and limitations or challenges and integrate this understanding into interpersonal interactions.

Experience using positive reinforcement systems preferred.

Experience implementing life skills and social skills programs preferred.

Completion of 40 hour online Registered Behavior Technician Training preferred.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.  Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.  May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Medium.  Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
