Overview:

The Area Director of Finance oversees financial functions for Galveston area businesses, including accounting, forecasting, budgeting, and auditing. and ensures that adequate controls are in effect and are operating satisfactorily to safeguard those assets. Ensures that the accounting staff is adequately trained and supervised in their work to support the efforts of all personnel in achieving the successful operation and profitability of the assets.

Responsibilities:

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise the Assistant Controller(s), Information Technology Manager, and Purchasing Manager.

Resolve personnel issues.

Perform annual reviews.

Interview accountant candidates.

Additional Responsbilities:

Maintaining and securing assets.

Minimizing outstanding receivables to achieve an 85% current rate within 8 out of 12 months.

Ensures that any deviations from established policies or procedures are approved by The Director of Hospitality Administration.

The accurate & timely preparation of month - end & financial statements, preliminary out by the 10th of the month. (Ultimate goal)

Establishing & keeping food & beverage control functions with the food & beverage department.

Maintain Proper point of sale procedures & systems.

Supervise the preparation of the monthly asset & liability reconciliations and clear any reconciling items monthly.

Participate in the preparation of various forecasts including weekly flash, 90-day operating forecast, and productivity forecast.

Ensure that the businesses are in compliance with all state, & federal regulations.

Confirm the property submits all taxes in a timely & accurate manner. (Sales & Use, TABC, Franchise.)

Oversee the record retention procedures are followed each month.

Conduct regular departmental meetings.

Maintain a high level of professionalism in appearance, demeanor, ethics and image of self and associates. Be an active member in at least one local community group.

Schedule audits of various cash outlets (where applicable) on a regular and periodic basis and report on the findings.

Supervise the maintenance of lease and contract files.

Create annual and capital budgets and forecasts and maintain fixed assets. (where applicable)

Preparation of year end closing work papers in accordance with GAAP.

Ensure good safety practices of employees and assist in the maintenance of proper emergency, safety & security procedures.

Direct and coordinate the activities of all assigned personnel and departmental responsibilities.

Oversee all accounting related computer systems.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or hotel management.

Minimum of 5 years experience as a "Hotel/Resort" Director of Finance, or Controller, previous multi property experience preferred.

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Six to Eight years overall experience in the hospitality industry.

Proficient on Excel, Oracle system experience preferred.

CPA, CPA candidate or CHAE designation or equivalent preferred.
