Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will be responsible for supporting the research efforts of the PI’s health equity-focused Skills-based Educational Strategies to Reduce Vascular Events in Orange County (SERVE OC) family hypertension study by providing comprehensive project coordination and data management for clinical components of the research study according to standard operating procedure (SOPs) and University policies and procedures. The incumbent is responsible for supporting and coordinating all aspects of their assigned clinic focused on Vietnamese family participants, including recruiting and consenting participants; administering questionnaires and cognitive/neurobehavioral assessments; conducting focus groups and stakeholder interviews; training and supporting community health workers with intervention delivery for Vietnamese participants; answering research participant questions; scheduling appointments; collecting physical measurements; collecting and processing biospecimens; conducting participant follow-up for referrals and remote blood pressure monitoring; and training and supervising new staff according to SOPs. Incumbent will collect clinical data in compliance with established study protocols, will maintain records and periodically prepare written progress reports, and may help develop or modify SOPs as needed under the direction of the PI. Incumbent will ensure study protocols are followed, appropriate documentation is kept, and accurate data is collected. Incumbent will provide additional support to SERVE OC study and PI’s other studies and projects as needed, including coordination with interdepartmental, academic, institutional, and community partners for meetings, events, activities, and deliverables; preparation of IRB materials; scheduling; creation of presentation materials; development of manuscripts and other written materials; and maintenance of records and documentation.

Qualifications:

Required:

Excellent interpersonal skills to relate easily and effectively with people within and outside the University, including both strong written and verbal communications

Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize and follow up

Skill to use an iPhone, iPad, personal computer, computer software programs at the level of sophistication required for general office work

Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet computer software

Proficient writing skills to prepare/compose/review a variety of materials with accuracy and completeness

Familiarity with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) to ensure confidentiality, privacy and security of patient information

Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed

Ability to work professionally and as part of a team, keeping track of any ongoing or new problems or requests

HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities.

Preferred:

Familiarity with basic medical terminology

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with study participants, researchers and non-researchers

Bi-lingual – Spanish / English

Experience with electronic data management, including spreadsheets

Previous experience in University research setting and/or health promotion program preferred

Previous training or experience administering cognition and neurobehavioral assessments such as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA), Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence, the NEPSY-II Developmental Neuropsychological Assessment, or the Connors Kiddie Continuous Performance Test would be beneficial

Previous training or experience in finger stick blood draw: Blood borne pathogens certified

BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience. MPH or equivalent masters’ degree preferred.
