Job Summary:

Works directly with individuals, families, and the communities to improve health, promote healthy behaviors and prevent disease.

Job Duties:

Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services per the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Monitors health status to identify and solve individual, family, and community health problems. Diagnoses and investigates health problems and health hazards in the community. Informs educates, and empowers people about health issues. Mobilizes community partnerships and action to identify and solve health problems. Develops policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts. Enforces laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety. Links people to needed personal health services and assures the provision of health care when otherwise unavailable. Assures competent public and personal health care workforce. Evaluates effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of personal and population-based health services. Researches for new insights and innovative solutions to health problems.  Provides Human Resources with a copy of all licensures, certifications, renewal of licensures, and certifications upon receipt thereof. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Minimal supervisory responsibility.  (Lead)

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT 

Associate's degree from two-year college or technical school in Nursing; no substitutions.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT 

At least one (1) year of experience in a related field.

COMPUTER SKILLS 

An individual should know Database software; Inventory software; Project Management software, and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

Must possess a license as a Registered Nurse (RN) from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN) or possess a multistate RN license accepted by the OBN, with no substitutions. Must maintain license throughout employment. Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintained throughout employment. Can be obtained during orientation. Must be certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) at the supervisor’s discretion and maintained throughout employment. If not certified, ACLS or AMLS certification must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire. Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.

Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
