D403 Technical services currently has an opening for two Technical Writing Editors in the COLUMBIA Technical Manual group.

In this role, the selected candidate will be expected to: 

Edit the contents of technical writing products including ship system manuals, operating instructions, operating procedures, casualty procedures, and defensive weapon delivery system equipment manuals.

Maintain configuration management of all work related to their products and the writers they work with.

Plan/coordinate development and issuance of products to support incentive goals and ultimately ship certification and delivery.

Resolve items identified directly with engineering, shipyard organizations, and the customer.

Interpret technical requirements for writing products and instruct the writers as the format and content.

Provide mentorship and training to new and experienced writers.

Work with supervision to determine priorities, schedule, and work load to plan and coordinate the work of the group.

Review interactive electronic technical manuals.

Ensure writing products are prepared in accordance with published procedures and processes as well as standard practices.

Attend various meetings representing D403 supervision as directed.

Recommend and implement process improvement initiatives.

Ensure the quality of products.

Develop and foster good working relationships with writers, other editors, engineering, supervision, management, and the customer.

Qualifications:

Required:

Minimum of 3 years of technical writing background.

Must have or be able to obtain a Secret clearance.

HS Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

Bachelors degree.

Prior military experience.

Technical background/experience with submarine systems and components.

Skills:

Proven leadership and mentorship skills.

Attention to detail.

Great communication skills to foster working relationships both internal and external to the company.

Ability to plan, organize, and schedule work.

Proven success supporting others to accomplish tasks on time.

Ability to multi-task.

Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
