Job Purpose / Overview

We are on the lookout for a Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) - Scaffolding to join the ambitious Hinkley Point C project. If you have a solid background in managing Temporary Works within large-scale infrastructure projects and a specific expertise in scaffolding, this is a fantastic opportunity to work on one of the largest construction projects in Europe, shaping the future of UK energy.

As the Temporary Works Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing all scaffolding-related Temporary Works for the Hinkley Point C construction site. Working on-site for Nuclear New Build (NNB) as the Principal Contractor, your role will be crucial in ensuring that all Temporary Works meet the highest standards of safety and quality in line with BS 5975: 2019 and CDM Regulations 2015.

Contextual Information

Hinkley Point C is a nuclear site in West Somerset, and its vision is to build two major EPR nuclear plants. The Construction Delivery Lead will specifically oversee the construction within the Nuclear Island (NI) area, including Units 1 & 2 (N1, N2, and N3). As this project is massive in scale and complexity, we're looking for someone with experience in delivering large projects under challenging constraints.

Principal Accountabilities

On-site inspections: Spend 75% of your time on-site, ensuring compliance with Temporary Works procedures and dealing with any issues.
Temporary Works compliance: Oversee the delivery of Temporary Works in compliance with BS 5975: 2019 and the NNB Temporary Works Standard.
Coordination and supervision: Work closely with Contract Partners' Temporary Works Coordinators and Supervisors to ensure all scaffolding-related Temporary Works are executed safely and efficiently.
Technical advice: Provide advice to the Project and Construction teams on scaffolding-related Temporary Works matters and proactively identify potential issues before they arise.
Design verification: Ensure all scaffolding Temporary Works designs are in place before the commencement of work and are executed according to approved designs, risk assessments, and method statements.
Team collaboration: Participate in workshops, meetings, and cross-site information sharing to maintain high standards and foster collaboration between contractors and teams.
Report to the NNB Principal Temporary Works Coordinators on site, ensuring all work is completed to the agreed timelines and standards.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential Skills & Experience

Proven experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in Civil/Structural Engineering with a strong focus on Temporary Works for scaffolding on large construction projects.
On-site experience: Hands-on experience working as a Temporary Works Supervisor on major construction sites, ideally with multiple contractors.
Strong knowledge of BS 5975: 2019 and experience with scaffolding Temporary Works systems.
Leadership and communication: Excellent organisational, delegation, and communication skills with the ability to build trust and collaboration across multiple teams.
Safety-first mindset: A thorough understanding of the Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations 2015 and other relevant Health & Safety regulations.
Experience in preparing Temporary Works Design Briefs and working with designers to ensure compliance.

Desirable Skills

Previous experience working on the Hinkley Point C construction project.
Knowledge of scaffolding Temporary Works in mechanical contractor environments.
CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspector or Advanced Scaffold Inspector
SMSTS or equivalent safety management certification.
Experience with Confined Spaces safety protocols.

Qualifications

A minimum of 5 years' experience in Temporary Works for scaffolding, preferably on large-scale infrastructure projects.
CITB Temporary Works Supervisor certification.
SMSTS or equivalent.
