Job Description: Project Manager

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Senior Project Manager/Principal

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and Execution:

Identify design criteria and execute effective designs that exceed client expectations.

2. Client Interface:

Direct client interactions and spearhead plan processing with public agencies.

3. Business Development:

Engage in marketing, lead finding, and pursuing new work opportunities.

4. Administrative and Financial Tasks:

Manage invoicing, budget monitoring, proposals, change orders, timecard approvals, and attend required meetings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop schedules and coordinate the design team's workflow with the Sr. Project Manager.

Supervise plan preparation, technical reports, cost estimates, and client deliverables.

Ensure high-quality, cost-effective designs that meet agency and client standards.

Oversee direct contact with agencies, plan processing for approval, and resolve design problems.

Coordinate with outside consultants (geotechnical, landscape, plumbing, architect) and internal departments (survey, mapping, water quality).

Initiate project phase kick-off meetings.

Conduct site investigations and research for proposals, designs, and marketing materials.

Visit construction sites to ensure plan conformity, resolve discrepancies, and respond to RFIs.

Provide workload forecasts and communicate resource needs to the Sr. Project Manager.

Conduct staff reviews, provide coaching/training, and ensure timely submission of employee timecards.

Track project budgets, provide billing instructions, and handle change order requests.

Implement and promote new ideas and procedures incorporating Full Circle Thinking.

Represent the company in client and agency meetings.

Attend seminars and classes, submitting written evaluations and key changes for implementation.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise 1-5 employees within the Engineering Team in coordination with the Principal or Sr. Project Manager.

Responsibilities include interviewing, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining employees, and resolving complaints.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree (B.S.) in Civil Engineering or equivalent from a four-year college or university.

Minimum of ten years of civil engineering design experience.

At least 3 years as the central design figure for a team, with experience in mentoring and overseeing project workflow.

Certifications:

EIT certification required.

PE license or the ability to obtain it within two years of hire/promotion is required.

Skills:

Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D preferred.

Strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and team-building skills.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

Occasionally required to stand, walk, talk, or hear.

Must occasionally lift/move up to 10 pounds.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

Noise level is usually quiet.
