Basic Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience, plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience to meet managerial expectations.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire, but must be obtainable within a reasonable period of time as determined by program requirements. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position:

Progeny Systems, a business area within the General Dynamics Mission Systems company, is a high-tech business focusing on software and hardware system integration, cutting-edge research and development, and manufacturing. We deliver architectures, designs, testing, and production of the current and next generation torpedo guidance and control systems for the Department of Defense providing the warfighter with advanced capabilities in target detection, acquisition, and prosecution. We are a technology leader in numerous areas including technology insertion; acoustic sensors; signal processing; guidance; cyber secure; and high reliability systems.

As a Technical Manager of Electrical Engineering for the Torpedo Systems Group (TSG), with extensive electrical design skills that can manage large, complex project initiatives of substantial importance to the organization, while working with and providing guidance to a team of electrical engineers. You will lead and manage the electrical engineering team and work with cross functional teams responsible for requirements analysis, design, development, test and evaluation of torpedo guidance systems.

Duties and Tasks:

This role is two parts: approximately 15% functional management role and approximately 85% direct charge program role. 

Demonstrate leadership skills on complex programs with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, push technological boundaries, lead complex projects, and mentor teams.

Lead and direct experienced engineers, lower-level engineers, and peer multi-disciplinary engineering leads.

Manage engineering expertise to meet business objectives through the effective planning and execution of pursuits, and programs.

Lead the engineering development life cycle, including concept, requirements, design, implementation, and test phases.

Analyze data such as customer specifications and test results to determine feasibility of design or application.

Perform component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal system solutions.

Research, plan, design, and provide guidance to other engineers for analog and digital electronic circuits including signal conditioning, power, analog-to-digital conversion, and communication.

Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and verbal/written communications to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer team.

Generate design and interface documentation.

Develop test criteria and assist in the design of test systems including formal acceptance events.

Manage engineering change document preparation and impact assessments.

Support failure investigation activities and failure review board (FRB) meetings.

Experience in analog and digital circuit design including signal integrity principles.

Proficiency in all phases of electrical design, including the creation of high-level functional and architectural diagrams, SPICE analysis, power analysis, component selection, schematic entry (OrCAD Capture experience a plus), and working with the PCB layout team to optimize placement, signal integrity, fitment, etc.

Working knowledge of common communication interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-485, USB, CAN bus, LVDS, and protocols such as TCP and UDP.
