Responsibilities:

Modern Technology Solutions Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Software Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) to the United States Space Force (USSF) in support of the Operational Command and Control (C2) Acquisition Delta responsible for developing software and the supporting architecture for the organize, understand, plan, decide, direct, and monitor capabilities within the C2 Joint Capability Areas (JCAs).  The position will provide software engineering expertise to generate governance policies and procedures to guide software development and program activities to drive data-informed decisions at speed, maximizing the Service’s flexibility and efficiency in delivering space-based capabilities.  The successful candidate will possess excellent problem solving skills, initiative, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 

Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:

Assisting in the development of governance documents such as common Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), digital engineering practices to include Architecture as Code implementations, and risk and requirements reporting processes.

Managing the software configuration control processes to ensure that relevant stakeholder requirements are met.

Identifying, defining, and implementing User Interface/User Experience standards across Delta software products.

Developing user interface design guidelines, conducting user research and testing, and auditing existing services as required by the Government.

Evaluating and making recommendations on adjudication of software deficiency reports.

Providing expert consultation on quality assurance and software safety practices to a government/industry team.

Providing software development expertise to anomaly investigations and system development Integrated Product Teams.

Troubleshooting development and operational incidents, identifying root causes, documenting problems, and implementing preventive measures.

Advising on the development of hardware and software functionality and performance modify as required and enforce data retention policies across the Delta.

Developing and defining data management policies and procedures, establishing data management tools and processes, and maintaining a data inventory.

Supporting model and analysis tool software development and data acquisition and assisting with conducting detailed analysis.

Staying up to date with and research industry best practices, trends, and emerging technologies for possible implementation.

Participating in technical discussions, trade studies and working groups.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product management, UX/UI designers, and quality assurance, to define and deliver software solutions that meet customer needs.

Designing in process automation and scripts for provisioning, monitoring, and managing software deployments and to reduce manual steps and improve reusability of solutions.

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years of relevant technical experience.

Minimum of 3 years of working in Special Access Programs (SAP) within the last 5 years.

Demonstrated proficiency with tools such as Oracle, HyperSQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, etc.

Ability to apply engineering rigor to solve engineering/scientific problems.

Knowledge of software computer design, development, test, integration, and quality assurance.

Knowledge and experience with design and implementation of Kubernetes

Capability to assume a leadership role during system requirements reviews, preliminary design reviews and other types of technical meetings.

Knowledge and experience working in Agile / Scrum teams, including daily standups, retrospectives, demos/reviews.

Demonstrated experience with Mattermost, Jira, Jira Align, Confluence, and Outlook.

Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of analysts, developers, data scientists, operators, and subject-matter experts.

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of data interface standards and communication protocols (i.e. RS-422, RS-485, MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, Internet Protocol Communication, C, C++, Java, Jira, Confluence, Git, or VxWorks).

Experience in Multi-Domain/Multi-Level Security architectures – Highly Desired.

Experience working on-site in a government client environment.

Familiarity with security procedures while working in a SCIF/SAPF environment.

Experience with DoD Acquisition Lifecycle experience and/or Rapid Acquisition / Rapid Delivery experience.

Education Requirements:

BS, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related engineering discipline required.

Security Clearance Level Required:

Top Secret, SCI eligible (please note: U.S. Citizenship is required).

Eligibility for access to Special Access Program Information.

Willingness to submit to a Counter Intelligence polygraph.

Location/Travel Requirements:

Place of work is El Segundo, CA area, remote work opportunity is limited.

May require travel up to 20% of time within the continental United States.

The pay range for this position in California is $150,000/year to $200,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract wages, job- related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
