Overview:

Prairie State Generating Company is looking for college students who are interested in a summer intern program in the power generation industry.  A limited number of internships are available for college students enrolled in specific curriculum.  Participating as an intern will provide experience and exposure to state-of-the-art technology in an operating power plant.   Student interns will receive industry experience, hands-on training, paid intern program and exposure to industry professionals

Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned):

Working on Plant Operations, Maintenance and /or Engineering projects which include optimization and improvement projects.

Working on Plant Control Systems (PLCs and DCS) with oversight from system engineers.

Working on Plant Power Systems (High Voltage, Medium Voltage, and Low Voltage) with oversight from system engineers.

Work on Data Collection and Interpretation to improve System Functionality and Efficiency.

Develop an understanding of electrical schematics, one-lines, connection drawings, and P&IDs.

Develop a presentation describing your work to Plant Management to be presented at the end of your internship.

Education/Experience

To be considered, an individual MUST be enrolled in a college program and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Must be in good academic standing.

MUST be available for a 12-13 week program beginning in Mid/Late-May to Early/Mid-August.

Certification/Licensure

N/A

Knowledge of

Safety and health hazards associated with each job assignment.

Basic understanding of control systems is desired.

Basic understanding of power systems is desired.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers, supervisors and others.

Ability to read and understand operating procedures.

Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

Ability to work unsupervised as required.

Ability to enter confined spaces, climb ladders and wear respirators as needed.

Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, and lift boxes weighing as much as 25 pounds.

Proficiency in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) is preferred.
