The Civils Estimator will be responsible for the accurate preparation of cost estimates for civil engineering projects within the water/wastewater sector. This includes tender preparation, reviewing technical documents, and ensuring that all estimates are competitive, comprehensive, and aligned with project requirements. The role demands a keen understanding of the water industry, a strong background in civil engineering, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Estimate Preparation:
Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil works, including excavation, pipeline installation, earthworks, and infrastructure development within the water sector.

Tender Management:
Review project tender documents and specifications. Identify key project risks, constraints, and opportunities while formulating bids.

*

Bill of Quantities (BoQ):
Create and manage the Bill of Quantities for projects, ensuring alignment with tender specifications and project requirements.

*

Technical Evaluation:
Analyze drawings, designs, and specifications to determine accurate costings and identify any potential cost-saving opportunities or risks.

*

Supplier & Subcontractor Liaison:
Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness. Evaluate vendor pricing and negotiate favorable terms.

*

Cost Analysis:
Conduct detailed cost breakdowns for labor, materials, and equipment to ensure competitive pricing structures. Monitor price fluctuations and update cost databases accordingly.

*

Project Support:
Work closely with project managers, planners, and site teams to ensure that all estimates and budgets are adhered to throughout the project lifecycle.

*

Compliance & Standards:
Ensure that all estimates comply with industry standards, company policies, and legal regulations. Stay updated on water industry trends and best practices.

*

Post-Contract Support:
Assist in project reviews, cost control, and final account preparation to ensure that project margins are protected and improved where possible.

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

* Proven experience (3-5 years minimum) as a Civils Estimator, ideally within the water industry or related infrastructure sectors.

* Strong knowledge of civil engineering construction practices, particularly in water-related projects such as pipelines, water treatment plants, and drainage systems.

* Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Candy, Causeway, Conquest, or similar).

* Familiarity with tendering procedures, contracts (NEC, JCT, etc.), and commercial frameworks.

* Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail.

* Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal teams and external suppliers.

* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

* Full UK driving license (or equivalent).
