Overview:
Youth Mentor
Pay: $21.00 per hour
Available Shifts:
Days, Mid-day and Overnight shifts available
Location: Lake Ozark, Missouri (this is not a remote position)
Are you empathetic, patient, and committed to empowering adolescents on their journey towards sustainable mental wellness?
As a Youth Mentor, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support adolescents ages (9-18) in their journey towards improved mental health and well-being. Every day you will participate and guide teens in experiential therapies like art, music, yoga, hiking, fitness, and a variety of other on and off campus activities. To thrive at Calo, you must have an empathetic heart and maintain personal and professional boundaries with teens.
At Calo our mission is to lead the way in driving teen and young adult anxiety, depression, and suicide from the all-time highs of today to all-time lows by 2028.
We warmly welcome EMTs to apply for this position! Your experience in emergency medical care and crisis management makes you uniquely qualified to transition into the Behavioral Health Associate role.
Responsibilities:
Ensure all students have finished their assigned chores–including cleaning of the team home–and taken care of their personal hygiene
Demonstrate patience and calm demeanor under pressure
Maintain firm boundaries with students
Show empathy and compassion towards students
Form a bond with students based on trust
Promote a fun and positive atmosphere in our “Milieu” for social skill development
Collaborate with a team to facilitate students' healing process
Accompany students on outings and Adventure Therapy sessions
Engage in animal-assisted therapy to simulate foster/adoption experiences and promote healthy attachments
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required
Minimum age requirement: 21 years
Prior experience with preteens in a residential setting beneficial but not required
Is able to pass State and Federal background checks
Able to pass physical and perform duties of the position
Physical Requirements
Sitting/standing – employee may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
Walking – employee may be required to walk considerable distance during the workday
Carrying – employee may be required to carry objects in his or her arms and must have full mobility of arms to perform Safe Crisis Management (SCM)
Lifting – employee may be required to raise and lower students from one level to another during the shift and must be able to lift 45 lbs. to perform SCM
Stooping and crouching – employee is required to bend forward at the waist and/or kneel to perform SCM
Climbing stairs – employee must be able to climb stairs
