Overview:
AMERISAFE is seeking a detail-oriented, productivity driven professional to add to our “Excellence Team” based in DeRidder, LA. The Accountant II is responsible for a wide range of activities relating to financial accounting and reporting (both internal and external) to include, but not limited to, preparing and analyzing significant accounting transactions and related controls; review and reconciliation of general ledger accounts; preparation of financial statements and related support and disclosures for review by senior accounting personnel; compilation of data and reporting for Statutory, GAAP, and SEC filings; and supervision of accountants when required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business or an MBA
Must have either at least four years accounting/finance experience in property and casualty industry or at least six years experience in applicable accounting functions in other industries
CPA desired
Supervisory experience preferred
Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley principles and practices as desired
Knowledge of SEC reporting practices desired
Proven ability to analyze and present information regarding accounting principles and issues to management
Thorough working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and MS Outlook
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Excellent communications skills - written and verbal
Demonstrated ability to meet requirements under strict deadlines
Highly organized style, with demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently
Proven ability to work closely with others in a team-oriented environment

Responsibilities:
Preparation of general journal transactions as related to accounting for premiums, losses, investments, reinsurance, taxes, fixed assets and/or general expenses
Preparation of regulatory compliance documents
Reconciliation of general ledger accounts as required
Analysis of premiums, losses, investments, reinsurance, premium and other miscellaneous taxes, fixed assets and/or general expenses, as required
Compilation and reporting of data required for Statutory, GAAP and SEC compliance and tax filings
Support preparation of financial statements and related documents, as required
Direct input into and maintenance of general ledger and accounts payable system
Analysis of internal controls within applicable accounting processes
Other duties as assigned
