Overview:

Sets up the tray line and cafeteria, assembles and serves meals.  May also prepare salads, desserts, beverages and other miscellaneous food items.  Occasionally, may deliver meal trays to patient rooms and nursing units.

Responsibilities:

Prepares patient tray line or cafeteria serving areas for the serving of meals by setting out hot and cold food items as specified on the menu; prepares salads, desserts, and cold entrees by following approved recipes.  Ensures that salads, desserts, sandwiches, and beverages are prepared using quality control and sanitation standards (HAACP), and in sufficient quantities to minimize waste.  Distributes and serves food to appropriate locations.

Demonstrates knowledge of food preparation for modified diets based upon restriction relating to age, nutrient and texture modifications.  Able to explain food safety issues appropriate for age.

Ensures that foods are appropriately garnished and eye-appealing to customers.

Greets customers as they approach station following Northside’s service standards.

Serves food to customers and patients, utilizing basic food handling techniques. Completes daily taste and temperature logs as required.

Cleans, washes and organizes utensils, dishes, and trays.

Cleans and sanitizes serving or food preparation areas, and ensures that leftover foods are properly labeled and stored.

Cleans and maintains standard kitchen equipment used in food preparation.

Prepares snacks, such as sandwiches and milk shakes, and keeps nourishment items up to date.

Labels and delivers food bags.

Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.  Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED

Must be able to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions.

Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations.

PREFERRED

Six (6) months of Food Service or customer service experience
