Overview:
Salem Media Group, publicly traded (SALM), offers an exceptional opportunity for a senior tax professional for our beautiful office in Camarillo, CA. Could be remote for the right person if not local.
Salem Media Group operates over 90+ radio stations nationwide & satellite radio as well as digital media such as streaming services. We are looking for a senior tax professional to join our Tax Department. The senior tax will have opportunities to learn tax provision and compliance, if desired, though mainly focus on Salem’s sales & use tax (“SUT”). This position requires a working knowledge of SUT principles; month-end close and reconciliations, strong organizational skills; effective collaboration and communication; and efficient execution.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the SUT preparation process to ensure the Company’s SUT compliance, including maintain filing requirements in software to enable correct frequencies.
Maintain tax files (processing sales tax exemption certificates for customers)
Resolve filing issues and notices as necessary, such as, filing delinquent returns.
Register the Company in new states, as required.
Monitor SUT technical developments.
Perform tax research on SUT issues (for example, Company’s obligations to collect and sales taxes).
Assist in audits by taxing authorities.
Build strong cross function relationships with members from other teams (such as, Sales, Accounting, Operations).
Assist in month-end financial close, including reconciliation and analysis of general ledger accounts and with the quarter and year-end audit processes.
Assist with other various ad-hoc projects, as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accountancy or finance.
4 to 6 years of working experience.
Technical expertise as well as research skills on SUT matters and ability to make informed conclusions and recommendations.
Solid understanding of accounting principles and reconciliations
Strong organizational skills and attention to details and ability to prioritize multiple tasks/projects and routine responsibilities.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and work effectively independently and in a team environment.
Ability to adapt to change, think strategically, deliver high quality results.
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.
Experience with Avalara (AvaTax) is a plus.
