The UC Irvine School of Medicine’s B3 DrivSim Lab and Program will lead the Youth Thriving in Life Transitions with Transportation project. The project will educate and train Latino youth in the age-specific breadth of traffic safety and transportation science by delivering interactive education on youth development and prevention of health risk behaviors related to traffic safety and transportation, supplying professional hands-on skills-based driver safety training, and providing interactive education to the scope of transportation science with a core focus on their own health, education, and future employment.

The project manager will manage a unique project comprised of UCI faculty and community leaders to bolster and advance opportunities for youth to recognize and ultimately take advantage of the benefits that transportation has to offer in later health, education, and employment. Working closely with the B3 Program Director, the project manager will be an integral role in the success of Youth Thriving in Life Transitions with Transportation Project that will collaborate closely with university and community project partners.

The project manager will receive guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and is responsible for establishing the methods to attain them. They will use their skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. The project manager will demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. They will develop new successful approaches and procedures within the overall program for possible implementation. While they will be in charge of an area of work, and typically formulate program approaches and procedures for this area, they may not necessarily have final approval authority.

National Commission for Health Education Credentialing Inc. (NCHEC) - Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)

Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with all project faculty and community partners.

Working knowledge of public health, community education and training, and development of programs.

Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Effective leadership skills, including coordinating and organizing project activities for project success.

Demonstrated high-level communications skills to convey information in a clear and concise way.

Demonstrated ability to properly evaluate information, and prepare concise, well-organized reports, summaries, and correspondence while maintaining strong attention to detail.

Ability to think critically, compile information from various sources, and prepare reports.

Skill in working independently, taking initiative, following through on all assignments, and multi-tasking with demanding timeframes.

Ability to work as a supportive, cooperative, and collaborative member of the project team.

Ability to multitask and definitively adhere to meeting project deadlines within a fast-paced environment.

Ability to establish, organize, and maintain project files and records while being discretion and maintaining all confidentiality.

Proficiency in Google Docs, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe PDF, Image Editing Program, Data Visualization Tools (e.g., SAS)

Bilingual in English/Spanish with high fluency in speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.

Master’s degree in health sciences (Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, Psychology etc.) or Business Administration

Formal training in public health epidemiology

Working knowledge of frameworks and approaches to achieve health equity at the community level.

At least 2 years’ experience working in community-focused/based education, program implementation, and/or research projects.

Special Conditions:

Work daily on UCI campus and travel to community sites for project activities and project-related visits as needed.

Possible weekend and evening hours.
