Senior Ecologist – Midlands

£30,000 - £50,000 basic (depending on experience), and benefits

Client

From rail, civils and construction to power generation, renewable energy, and retail, we support clients of all sizes throughout the UK, responding quickly to provide the expert, robust ecological advice and guidance their development schemes deserve.

Job Role

To undertake ecological assessments, appraisals and surveys for protected species and habitats; and complete desktop study and report writing for individual projects as appointed. Mentoring junior members of staff. Fulfil operational duties and expectations of the company where required. Updating of internal record keeping processes.

Role responsibilities

* To undertake site visits, usually lone working (may be assisted by team members), to complete ecological assessments (including, but not limited to; appraisals, protected species risk assessments, protected species survey work) in accordance with current industry guidelines and procedures.

* To produce report documentation to document the findings of survey work completed. Assistance will always be provided, although this may require the individual to request this from a team member.

* To assess and collate publicly available data and data obtained from local groups and centres as part of the desktop study.

* To provide ecological advice and guidance to clients, consulting Principal/Senior Ecologist or team members as required.

* To endeavour to increase and improve knowledge and experience through private reading, participation in external activities with local groups (such as bat group, badger group, etc.) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD – to be subsidised by the Company where agreed).

* To actively seek assistance and help when required from team members.

* To assist/mentor junior or less experienced members of the team in their day-to-day work and professional development.

* To provide high level technical review of reports, prior to approval and submission to client.

* To assist and support Managing Director/ Management Team in operational duties.

* Will include use of the company vehicles for travel to sites, meeting all insurance criteria.

* To undertake any other reasonable duties that may be allocated from time to time commensurate with the post.

Qualifications/Experience

* At least two years of experience as a Senior Ecologist.

* Must possess at least two species licenses.

* Demonstrated experience in fieldwork, including habitat and bat surveys.

* A solid track record in office-based consultancy tasks such as reporting and mapping.

* Level 1 Class Licence for bat surveys, with other survey licences welcomed.

* Strong botanical identification skills.

* Experience in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Assessments and using the UKHab classification.

* Capability to conduct regular fieldwork.

Preferred but NOT essential

* Membership of CIEEM. (Not essential)

* Level 2 Class Licence for bat surveys.

* Licences for other protected species surveys.

* Experience in EPS Mitigation Licensing.

* Proficiency in GIS mapping.

* Understanding of relevant protected species planning policies, including the NPPF and local plans, in relation to development.

Package / Remuneration:

The remuneration package offered at this stage is subject to the experience of the candidate, but will likely include the following:

Basic Salary: Between £30,000 - £50,000

Additional: Health, Pension, laptop, mobile phone
