Seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a project in the Warwickshire area, who will be responsible for managing all cost-related aspects of the project, including a critical junction which connects the main line of the railway with spurs running into and out of Birmingham City Centre towards Curzon Street Station.

Key responsibilities

Provide expert advice on cost management and commercial strategy, ensuring that the project remains within budget while meeting all contractual and regulatory requirements. You will oversee the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and cost plans, and manage the procurement process, including the preparation and evaluation of tender documents. Monitoring project expenditure, identifying potential cost overruns, and providing solutions to mitigate financial risks are key responsibilities of this role.

You will work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to negotiate contracts, resolve commercial issues, and ensure that the financial aspects of the project align with its overall objectives. Regular reporting on financial performance, cost forecasting, and variance analysis will be expected, along with maintaining detailed records to support project audits and compliance checks.

Competencies

Have strong analytical skills, with a proven track record in cost management and quantity surveying within large-scale infrastructure projects, preferably in the railway sector.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential, as you will be required to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including contractors, clients, and regulatory bodies, to achieve optimal commercial outcomes.

Attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy in cost reporting are crucial, as the role involves managing complex budgets and ensuring that all financial data is reliable and up to date.

You should be highly organized, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and adaptable to the dynamic environment of a major infrastructure project.

A proactive problem-solver, you will be expected to identify and address financial risks early, providing solutions that support the project’s success.

You should also have a deep understanding of NEC contracts and be comfortable navigating the legal and regulatory frameworks governing large-scale projects.

Qualification Requirements

Hold a bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, Commercial Management, or a related field, and be a member of a recognized professional body such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Have a minimum of 7 years of experience in quantity surveying, with a focus on large-scale infrastructure or railway projects, is required.

Experience with NEC contracts and a strong understanding of cost management software and financial reporting tools are essential.

Have a track record of successfully managing budgets, delivering cost savings, and supporting the financial aspects of complex construction projects.

A dedicated, detail-oriented professional with a strong background in quantity surveying and a commitment to excellence in cost management and commercial delivery.
