A large and successful maritime services company is seeking a Claims Handler to manage and process claims related to freight liability. The Claims Handler will need to have completed education to A-level, worked in freight liability for 2 years minimum, and have proven experience working as a claims handler in freight or transportation. In addition, the Claims Handler will have strong communication, analytical, problem solving, organisational and negotiation skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Receive, review, set up and process freight liability claims from customers, carriers, brokers &/or Insurers

Conduct thorough investigations to determine the potential legal liability of parties involved

Evaluate the extent of damages or loss, assessing the validity of claims and estimating potential settlement amounts

Appointing surveyors &/or Lawyers where necessary

Collaborate with internal departments to gather necessary information and documentation to support the claims process

Communicate with insurance providers, brokers, and adjusters

Carefully monitoring of legal time bars and case progress

Operating effectively and efficiently in a ‘paper-less’ environment

Ensure accurate and complete documentation of claims

Negotiating settlement of claims in accordance with contractual terms, national and international law and/or on a commercial basis where appropriate

Maintain proper records of claims, correspondence, and settlement agreements

Providing guidance to clients

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to prevent future claims by identifying opportunities for process improvements and risk mitigation

Building and maintaining good working relationships with Insureds, insurers, brokers, freight forwarders, lawyers, claimants and recovery agents

Stay updated on industry regulations, insurance policies, and legal requirements related to freight liability claims

Knowledge, skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Have attained A-level qualifications

Have worked in freight liability minimum 2 years+

Proven experience as a claims handler or in a similar role in freight/transportation

Strong knowledge of freight liability regulations, insurance policies, international conventions and claim settlement procedures

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex situations and make sound decisions

Strong negotiation and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously while maintaining high-quality standards

Desirable:

Completed an undergraduate degree

Salary: £30,000 to £40,000 DOE
