A multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking for a Chartered Mechanical Engineer to join its Building Engineering team in Belfast. This is an opportunity to lead the design and delivery of Mechanical Building Services solutions on technically demanding projects spanning science and technology, rail, higher education, healthcare, residential and industrial developments.

Working within a collaborative design environment, you'll play a key role in developing innovative, low-carbon engineering solutions while working alongside architects, structural engineers and specialist consultants from concept through to project completion.

The Role

As a Chartered Mechanical Engineer, you'll take ownership of the design and technical delivery of Mechanical Building Services systems across a diverse portfolio of projects.

You'll develop building services strategies, coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and ensure projects are delivered to programme, budget and the highest engineering standards.

The role also includes undertaking thermal comfort and building performance analysis, producing technical documentation and mentoring junior engineers as projects progress through design and delivery.

Projects range from highly serviced commercial and public buildings to technically complex science, technology and transport facilities, providing the opportunity to work on challenging schemes where sustainable design is a key priority.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and delivery of Mechanical Building Services systems across multiple projects.
Develop sustainable mechanical design solutions that balance performance, energy efficiency and commercial objectives.
Produce and review engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, drawings and BIM models.
Coordinate Mechanical Building Services designs with architects, structural engineers and multidisciplinary project teams.
Carry out thermal comfort, energy modelling and building performance assessments using software including IES.
Support the integration of renewable energy technologies and low-carbon building systems into project designs.
Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, industry standards and client requirements.
Manage project programmes, technical deliverables and resource planning.
Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to junior engineers.
Contribute to fee proposals, project planning and wider business development activities where required.

What You'll Need

Chartered Engineer status with IMechE, CIBSE or an equivalent professional institution. Applications are also welcomed from engineers expected to achieve Chartership within the next 12 months.
Strong experience in Mechanical Building Services Design across a range of sectors.
A thorough understanding of HVAC systems, sustainable building design and mechanical engineering principles.
Experience delivering complex building services projects from concept through to detailed design.
Proficiency in building performance modelling using IES or similar software.
Knowledge of renewable technologies, low-carbon design and energy-efficient building systems.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships across multidisciplinary project teams.
Commercial awareness, including resource planning, budgeting and supporting fee proposals.
