Our client is a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor operating throughout the North West, delivering high-quality infrastructure and groundwork solutions for leading house builders, developers, local authorities, and commercial clients. Their expertise spans bulk earthworks, drainage, roads and sewers, reinforced concrete, foundations, external works, and hard landscaping, supported by a reliable supply chain and modern fleet of plant and equipment.
With a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and delivering projects safely and efficiently, the business continues to grow and is now looking to strengthen its commercial team with the appointment of an experienced Buyer based in Warrington.
The Role
As Buyer, you will be responsible for:
Procuring groundworks materials, aggregates, concrete, drainage products, and civil engineering supplies
Sourcing and negotiating the best commercial terms with suppliers and manufacturers
Managing supplier relationships and developing new supply chain opportunities
Raising and processing purchase orders in line with project requirements
Working closely with Commercial, Estimating, and Operational teams to ensure timely material deliveries
Monitoring supplier performance, pricing, and lead times
Identifying cost-saving opportunities and driving value across the procurement function
Maintaining accurate procurement records and ensuring compliance with company procedures
Supporting project teams to ensure materials are available to meet programme requirements
The Ideal Candidate
The successful Buyer will have:
Previous experience as a Buyer within the construction industry
Experience procuring groundworks, aggregates, concrete, drainage, or civil engineering materials
Strong knowledge of construction procurement and supply chain management
Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills
Good commercial awareness and cost control experience
Strong organisational and communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and procurement systems
A proactive and commercially focused approach
Full UK Driving Licence
