Are you an experienced Manufacturing Buyer with extensive experience purchasing steel, metal components and engineering materials?

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing manufacturing business for an experienced Buyer to take ownership of purchasing activities across a busy production environment.

This is not a role for someone looking to step into purchasing. We are specifically looking for an individual with a strong background in procuring steel, metal components, fabricated parts and engineering materials within a manufacturing or engineering environment. You will be confident negotiating with suppliers, managing lead times and ensuring materials are available to meet demanding production schedules.

If you have experience as a Manufacturing Buyer, Senior Buyer, Procurement Specialist or Purchasing Officer within engineering or industrial manufacturing, we'd like to hear from you.

The Role

As Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing steel, metal components, machined parts, subcontract services and engineering consumables to support production. Working closely with Operations, Production and Stores, you will ensure materials are delivered on time, at the right quality and at the most competitive cost.

You will play a key role in developing supplier relationships, negotiating pricing and improving purchasing performance while supporting the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Source and purchase steel, metal components, fabricated parts and engineering materials.
Raise and manage purchase orders for raw materials, consumables and subcontract services.
Negotiate pricing, lead times and commercial agreements with suppliers.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with steel stockholders, engineering suppliers and subcontract manufacturers.
Monitor supplier performance, quality, delivery and cost.
Ensure material availability to support production schedules and customer deadlines.
Work closely with Production, Operations and Stores to forecast purchasing requirements.
Identify cost saving opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Resolve supplier and supply chain issues quickly to minimise production disruption.
Maintain accurate purchasing records using the company's ERP/MRP system.

Essential Requirements

Significant purchasing experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Proven experience purchasing steel, metal components, fabricated parts, engineering materials or industrial products.
Strong knowledge of steel grades, engineering materials and manufacturing supply chains.
Excellent negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
Experience working with engineering drawings, BOMs or technical specifications would be advantageous.
Good understanding of production planning and inventory management.
Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
Commercially minded with excellent organisational and communication skills.
Able to prioritise multiple purchasing activities within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

What's On Offer

Competitive salary of £35,000 – £45,000 per annum.
New starter bonus.
Early finish every Friday.
Supportive and collaborative working environment.
Opportunity to join a successful and expanding manufacturing business.
Ongoing training and career development.
